Location based services
LBS stands for Location Based Services and is a relatively new service that is being introduced to the public in various formats.
The technology works by using radio-location technology that is based on the signal strength of the closest mobile phone mast. This then returns a location which can be used in various different and innovative ways.
Wapfly have developed a service that is part of the 'Radius' platform, which uses the LBS technology and takes it one step further, making it an extremely useful service to both consumers and those who wish to expand their businesses.
The service works by a consumer sending out a text message such as 'TAXI' to the designated short code, the Radius platform then checks the post code in which the user is currently located. It then uses this information and checks it against the database of businesses/ service providers (or in this case Taxi firms) and replies with a text message including the contact details of the 4 nearest taxi firms.
